GBH (Guinea Pigs, Bunnies and Hamsters) RESCUE

AND RE-HOMING

Tel: 020 8658 5452

GBH Rescue and Re-homing is based in Beckenham, Kent.  Specialising in small animals there is always a constant flow of hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and other small animals who all need their help.  Many have come from people who, for whatever reason, have decided they can no longer look after their pet, others come from people who bought a 'boy' and they later produced babies, and sadly many come via other rescue centres or the RSPCA because of neglect or cruelty.  GBH does not receive any funding and relies completely on donations of both time and money.

NEWS UPDATE

GBH Rescue and Rehoming are currently looking for homes for the following hamsters:

A Syrian male and his 7 babies (estimate 5 - 6 weeks old) were found abandoned in a recycling bin.  The dad and 4 boys are looking for homes - it looks as though none have been handled much, therefore experienced homes are needed. The 3 girls will be ready for homing in a few weeks time once it has been confirmed they are not pregnant.  The hamsters are a variety of colours.

Two female big brown bears approximately 6 months old

Sable male and dove male, both born on 21 April - these two need handling

Very pretty Dom Spot Syrian - approximately 6 weeks old - is nervous and has never been handled, but will probably tame with daily handling by an experienced hamster owner.

5 week old males: golden short haired banded, Cinnamon long haired banded, golden long haired.  All reasonably easy to handle.

6 month old sable short haired female - needs taming.

Golden banded short haired male - 8-9 weeks old

Sable short haired male - born 21 April

Two Sable banded females - both had to have legs amputated upon arrival at GBH Rescue and Rehoming due to injuries they received when with their previous owner.  Both hamsters are friendly, very active and love escaping - therefore extra special care needs to be taken to ensure they don't escape.  They can't have wheels because of their missing legs, however, they can have plenty of climbing frames, and a run in an exercise ball.

Two 12 week old sable females - both need taming

Five daughters and their mum - variety of colours - all very friendly and tame - girls approximately 6 weeks old.

Five Robo females

One crazy sapphire winter white - cries a lot if you go near her cage!

Mum and litter will need re-homing in one weeks time when the babies are 6 weeks old.  One male dove banded, one cream banded, two dove females, one dove banded female and cinnamon banded mum.  All of them are friendly and tame.

If you think you can give one of these hamsters a home, please contact Jacky on 020 8658 5452 or sheila on enquiries@thehamstersite.com

XFactor:  Many people will have been surprised when they watched the Xtra Factor programme on ITV2 on Friday 2 December that it featured hamsters - these were provided for filming by GBH.  It should be pointed out that no hamster was harmed in any way during the filming of this programme.  All the hamsters who appeared on the programme have since been homed, but if you are interested in homing a hamster there are always plenty more available.

Fostering:

If you are unable to commit yourself to homing a hamster for the duration of its life (i.e. approx 2 years) and live in the Beckenham area and have transport - foster homes are also sought.  You will be asked to have a hamster for just a week or two, and during this time your job will be to handle it so it becomes tame, and ensure it is fed properly and well looked after.  At the end of an agreed time you will be asked to return it to GBH in order for it to be found a permanent home, and you may be asked to take on another one for a week or two.  If this appeals to you, and you have some experience of keeping hamsters, please get in touch.
